about

Released in 2000 to much acclaim, Lemonade & Buns was a worthy follow up to Tóg é go Bog é. It boasts many, many highlights including the summery Rachel's Reel, the swirling Tine Lasta and the magnificent mandolin-led Epicy (that was used in Cartoon Saloon's first animated feature Secret of Kells).
Most of the recording was done in Uachtar Ard (part of Connemara's speckled-Gaeltacht), in a large six bedroomed detached house. The watchful eyes and ears were provided by Robbie Dána and the recording desk manned by Simon Taylor.
Mixing was carried out by Lance Hogan and Lorcan Keogh in the Liffey Arts Research Centre in Naas where LARC's founder Eoin O'Toole memorably proclaimed that the album "crossed and stretched the boundaries of time and space."

"I’d never thought of Kila as being at the cutting edge of Celtic fusion music, the truth is that they’re just a lot more subtle than most at achieving their goals."

Keith Whitham (The Living Tradition)

"A studio recording can be an odd freeze-frame of what a collective of musicians are up to. With Lemonade and Buns, Kila gatecrash the place like it was a live gig: all urgent, hypnotic contribution and surrender to the groove."

Mic Moroney (The Irish Times)

"It's unlikely that there'll be a more fresh and original release to come out of Ireland in 2000."
